This perfume was launched on August 22, 1932, created by the legendary French perfumer Jean Carles.

Considered a Master of exquisite fragrances, he is also known for his creation of other outstanding perfumes of the era such as

Miss Dior,

Ma Griffe, and

Shocking de Schiaparelli.

Tabu became a classic oriental perfume with a sensual reputation from Paris to New York. It was said to evoke dreams of forbidden but exciting terrain, offering a departure from the ordinary world.

The fragrance is highlighted by fresh citrus and enriched with essential oils of luxurious flowers and sensual woods. Here are the notes of the perfume:

The perfume was named after the word “Taboo”, inspired by the cover of Sigmund Freud’s book “Totem & Taboo” that Javier Serra, the founder of DANA Parfums, came across while walking down a street in Nice, France. The perfume was marketed for the woman whom every man desired.

Tabu could be one of the earliest old perfumes I have ever gotten in touch with. When I was 21 and I remember that was the september of 2020. I was lying on my bed ( I still lived in my parents' house), and I was watching the movie, Feline Casanova, I fell in love with the Casanova performed by Donald Sutherland. When I was using this scent, it always reminded me of when I was a little girl that has a crush on a person from the old times. Also, the elegant and luxurious scent from Tabu reminds me of that period in Europe sandalwood, amber, Civet and spices with strong scents were the most popular scents during that time. If setting aside my emotions, this is still a very great fragrance with such a low price, and it is even still producing now. If you are a person who likes vintage or spicy perfume, you should try it when you still can.
